BROOKS
RANGE
A dying
caribou trembles
as wolves
tear it's shocked flesh.
A red
rose, the beating heart
the pink
snow, the arctic sun--
Wolves,
hovering and snapping,
canine
teeth dripping blood, melt
into the
frozen tundra.
MANASTASH
A hawk
dips low, screaming at
it's mirror
image in a
still
river winding through hills
whose
golden heads rise to crowns
of deep
magenta between
whose
cleavage emerald leaves lie--
like queens,
their velvet robes spread
round
about their autumn thrones.
